The unprecedented defense of the Patna payrets put them behind the Bengaluru Bulls.
Right cover Sunil's nine tackle points and a total of 17 points from the defense of the Patna Pirates helped them beat the Bengaluru Bulls 38-31. Pawan Sehrawat finished the game with 10 points in the first half. With this victory, Patna topped the Vivo Pro Kabaddi standings with 39 points against Bangalore and are trailing by just one point.
Sehrawat gave the Bulls a good start, scoring his team's first six points to help them build a four-point lead. He added seventh place in his and his team's tally with bonus but was handled by Sunil and sent to the bench.
Sunil and Mohammadreza Chianeh together knocked down Chandran Ranjit and added another tackle point to his team's tally to leave the Bulls with just two players on the mat. The Pirates made the first all-out of the game with a touch point after holding an accurate ankle on Deepak Narwal from Chianeh and taking a two-point lead.
The Bulls tried to regain the lead, but the Pirates resisted and matched them point-to-point to make sure they were two ahead on the scoreboard. As Chianeh and Sunil sent Sehrawat and Ranjit to the bench to take the Pirates' lead to four, the Patna defense continued their vigorous work.
Both teams added two points to their scoreboard to go to the halfway point and the Pirates took a 20-16 lead.
Patna extended their lead to five, courtesy of a touch point from Guman Singh. But a bonus point from Deepak and a super tackle by Saurabh Nandal helped the Bulls to come back within two on the scoreboard.
The Pirates' defense responded with two tackle points to reduce the Bulls to two players on the mat. A touch point for the Pirates left Bangalore with only a lone player, but a touch point from Dong Zion Lee managed to keep the all-out away. However, Patna did not hold back, as they added another touch point before taking Leela back in the ensuing climb and taking an all-out 28-21 lead.
Guman Singh's two-point red and then some spectacular Pirates' defensive performance and the help of skipper Prashant Kumar Rai took Patna's lead to 12 and left the Bulls with only three players on the mat. Bangalore's Defense Super Tackle beat Guman and Tendulkar one by one to close the gap to nine. But Patna remained significantly ahead on the scoreboard due to the careless handling of the Pirates' defense.
As the Bulls' raid unit continued to falter, their defenders took responsibility for helping them score on their side. He took two more super tackles in the final minutes of the game to reduce the deficit to six. The Pirates' defense added one last point to their tally before Chianeh entered for the final climb of the game, and the clock ticked to zero to confirm a crucial victory for the Pirates.
